Pumpkin Day 2006 |

A fun
packed pumpkin event was held for children of plot holders and friends at the
allotments on Halloween Sunday 2006. The children made pumpkin lanterns with
scary faces, using stencils to mark them and safe knives to cut them out, with
smaller children being helped by their parents. There was crazy pumpkin golf,
pumpkin hoop quoits, and hunt the scary spider. And many of the children also
did colouring in of Halloween pictures. Everyone got a prize for their
achievements, with a selection of goodies including scary Halloween toys.
The event
was well attended, with 30 children from 15 families, and was led by plot
holders Peter Aiano and Rachel Root, with nine parents and other adults helping
out.
‘This was
the second year we've run the activity, and we had nearly twice as many
children this year. It is really nice to see the kids all working together and
enjoying themselves. And some of them carved the pumpkins they'd grown after
sowing and planting them out in our spring gardening workshops earlier in the
year.’ said Peter Aiano.
