We recently started taking deliveries of this compost, and plot holders have been enthusiastically spreading it on their plots.
We will not be getting any more for the time being, as the site is too wet.

The compost is made from green waste and kitchen waste from several north London boroughs, by LondonWaste Ltd
at their site in Edmonton, then delivered to various allotment sites, parks and gardens.
It is excellent as a soil conditioner – breaking up clay soil and bulking up lighter soils. It acts as a mulch to suppress weeds. And it has value as a fertiliser (with some minerals in released immediately, though nitrogenis released more slowly).
Here are Mehmet and Dharmasakhya loading up their barrows, and here are some examples of it being used on the plots.
The next delivery is due this Thursday afternoon. Plot holders are asked not to be greedy – make sure there’s enough for everybody!
We are getting the compost as a direct result of recycling from our homes and gardens. The waste is collected and processed, including heat treatment to make sure there are no harmful effects, under regulation by DEFRA and the Environment Agency to a quality standard, BSI PAS100, which proves that it is safe, reliable and high performance. The takeback scheme is funded in part by the North London Waste Authority.
