apple blossom After many months of snow and ice it is time to start gardening again. Some ideas about what to plant and what to do in your garden now

garden bed weedsrhubarb Hopefully the severe winter will have killed off many of the pests that we suffer from as vegetable gardeners.

This time of the year it is important that all of our beds are well dug over and that any rubbish is removed from the site. Sheds and containers can be re-painted. If you are not planning to use a bed this year cover it with a heavy mulch or fleece to prevent weed and grass seeds developing.

With a bit of luck all your potatoes and onion set are now in. To this you can now start adding your lettuces, root vegetables and brassicas.  Tomatoes can now be hardened off and tender crops such as aubiegenes, courgette and sweet corn can be planted under glass. Get more ideas on what to do in your garden now and on gardening month by month
