Roger Drapper was the proud prize-winner of Best Allotment Plot on Hoxton Manor allotment site in 2006. He said:
'I'm proud to have won first prize for the second year running. Doing so well makes all the hard work worthwhile. The pressure is on to win again next year, but there are several worthy rivals coming up now!'
Margaret Hodgson came second, after winning Best Newcomer last year. She explained:
'I'm very pleased and surprised. I don't do it on my own; it's a joint effort with my husband Ron. We were Best Newcomer last year and second this year, so we must be doing something right, but I still feel that we are beginners. Roger and Eric have been our mentors, and everyone on the site is very helpful with advice.'
Dot Kirk came third, and was delighted with her beautiful glass plaque. Everyone got one of these to keep donated by Walthamstow Stadium, who also sponsored the trophy engraving and the certificates for plot holders to celebrate their achievement in their first year.
Teresa Edmans, Trudi James and Cathie Shaw won the 'Best Newcomer of the Year’.
Trudi: "We are all delighted. It's been challenging and fun, and only 10 months after we started we are now reaping the reward with this lovely trophy."
Cathie: ‘We got lots of advice and support from other people on the site, especially when we were getting started, and everyone has been friendly and neighbourly."
Teresa: ‘I'd recommend friends getting together to do an allotment, it's more fun and you can share the work and take turns in getting the watering done.’
Prizes and certificates were presented at the site's annual general meeting, to those who couldn’t get to the September social, by branch secretary Ann Ryan and committee member Eric Als.
