Contact your local council, look at some of the allotment links on our links page, contact Waltham Forest's allotment officer or the Hackney Allotment Society, or contact us. Most places have a waiting list.
Most allotments are run by councils who have a statutory obligation to provide sufficient plots (except for inner London boroughs). But you will probably find that there is a waiting list, because allotments have become very popular and in many areas there are not enough.
Contact your local council and neighbouring councils to see if they have any vacancies or can put you on their waiting list. They usually have an allotment officer, and it's often worth ringing them from time to time to let them know you're still keen. If you're open to options such as plot-sharing or renovating a disused allotment, you may be able to avoid waiting so long.
Allotments are also provided by other bodies such as churches or railway companies
The government have published a booklet about allotments, and have a website about allotments
