We won 'most improved' allotment site in the council’s borough-wide competition in 2006. This year we hope to win 'Best Site'!
The prize was handed out, together with prizes for best plots and best site in the borough, at a ceremony at Walthamstow Assembly Hall by the Mayor, Councillor Farooq Qureshi and council allotment officer Ken Johnson.
Committee member Peter Aiano, who collected the award, said:
'I felt privileged to receive such a prestigious award on behalf of all the wonderful allotment gardeners at Hoxton Manor allotments. It was an honour to meet the Mayor, and it is a true testament to the dedicated hard work of our members who have changed the site so dramatically over the last 12 months.'
Branch chair, Imogen Radford, added:
'It's hard to believe how rundown the allotments were a couple of years ago, when you look at how it is thriving now, with well-kept plots, full of busy gardeners, families enjoying a day in the fresh air, and people taking home big bags of delicious produce they have grown themselves. We now have queues of people who want to join us, and I'm very proud of everyone on the site. Next year we want to win best site in the borough!'
